Sam Milbrath was born into a family of artists in Victoria, British Columbia. She has an eye for finding beauty in the everyday mundane, and as result, has been capturing photographs since she was young. She broke into the art world when she began interviewing and writing about her favourite up-and-coming photographers for her now mostly-abandoned art blog. This sparked a career in art writing, magazines, galleries and photography—eventually causing her to shift focus to writing and editing outside of the art scene. Today, she captures photographs of her travels, finding the greatest inspiration in tropical, deserted scenes. Milbrath prefers to shoot with 35mm film, gravitating toward her Olympus Stylus Epic point and shoot camera or her Yashica FX-3.
